On Tuesday morning, the Arab newspapers touched upon the latest developments in al-Jazeera Tempest campaign to eradicate IS in the last pocket in Deir ez-Zor countryside.
Al-Sharq al-Awsat: Zero hour to eliminate Daesh is waiting for full evacuation of civilians
On the Syrian issue, al-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper touched upon the situation in the last stronghold of Daesh, “The Syrian Democratic Forces are waiting for the evacuation of more civilians trapped in IS pocket in east Syria as the exit of thousands of civilians increases the burden on the Kurds and relief organizations according to a report of the French Press Agency of al-Omar field east of the Euphrates.
The completion of the evacuation of those who are trapped in the last pocket of the organization would set the zero hour for the “Syrian Democratic Forces” in order to resolve the battle either by surrendering the extremists or by launching the latest attack against them in preparation for announcing the end of the organization’s control over areas that have witnessed terror for years.
The director of the Media Office of the Syrian Democratic Forces Mustafa Bali expected the departure of a large number of civilians on Monday from the besieged pocket in al-Baguz town which covers about half a square kilometer, hoping to be the “last batch.”
Bali said that according to SDF estimates in the latest update of their data basing on information gathered from those who have recently evacuated, “About 5,000 people are still at home.”
Al-Arab: The fate of the plan of “multinational forces” in north Syria depends on the contribution of the Europeans
The French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed on Monday the US President Donald H. Trump’s decision to keep a number of his country’s troops in Syria, but he did not clarify whether the decision had been agreed on in advance.
Macron said at a press conference with his Iraqi counterpart Barhem Saleh, “As for the United States’ decision is concerned, I can only welcome this choice. The American decision is good and we will continue to work in the region within the Coalition.”
Trump recently decided to keep some 400 troops in Syria divided within the buffer zone being negotiated in north-east of Syria and the US base in al-Tanf near the border with Iraq and Jordan.
The US move comes to encourage the European allies to take part in a multinational force of about 1,000 troops deployed in north-east of Syria to protect the Kurds from a possible Turkish attack which Ankara has already promised.
